It is a privilege for me as Secretary Finance to guide a team of dedicated and skilled officers playing a crucial role in the managing of public finances of the government towards accounting for the public services and program that are delivered to our citizens.
Over the past six years, the Department has been taking a lead role in the financial reforms of the government, taking steps to address challenges and achieve better financial outcomes. Our commitment to transparency and accountability in all financial dealings is our key driver as we recognise that effective financial management is critical to achieving sustainable development.
In response to economic challenges, our initiatives focus on enhancing revenue generation, streamlining expenditure, and improving public financial management. We are exploring innovated solutions to mobilise resources that will fund essential services for the well-being of our citizens.
Additionally, the Department has expanded its responsibilities to include overseeing the government office allocation committee and establishing the PPP Centres towards public private partnerships as part of our broader efforts to develop State assets.
Our objectives over the near term include an organisational redesign to adapt to the changes needed to modernise our PFM framework. We continue our commitment to PFM reform and publication of a National PFM improvement road map, initiating a subsequent phase of PFM reforms. Central to all our reform work is the governance expectations and eGovernment strategies within the MTDP IV.
We are committed to our mission and vision. Our vision is to provide and deliver prudent Public Financial Management and policy advice to the Government of Papua New Guinea that enhances service delivery. Our mission is to maintain our role in good governance through transparency and accountability and providing effective advice on managing public sector finances and delivering cost effective services.
The Department’s success is not possible without the commitment and dedication from all of our officers. Together, we can achieve our vision of a prosperous, equitable, and sustainable future for all our citizens.
