The Department of Finance has welcomed PNG Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) Audit Committee on board that was officially launched on February, 10th, 2021 at the TPA’s conference room, Port Moresby.
This now brings the total to 53 Audit Committees that have been established since its inception in 2005.
DoF Deputy Secretary Ms Margaret Tenakanai who was there to officiate the event thanked the TPA management to have the audit committee established in ensuring good governance and transparency in managing public monies.
‘‘The Department of Finance is mandated under the Public Finance Management Act to strengthen our country’s democracy by enabling oversight accountability and transparency in the public sector through financial reporting to build public confidence,’’ she said.
‘‘The audit committee should play an independent oversight advisory role and ultimate decision making for the organisation.’’
TPA Chief Executive Officer Eric Mossman Uvovo acknowledged the support from the DoF Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan and management to successfully establish TPA Audit Committee.
He said this was a milestone achievement for TPA.
He further stated that the purpose of the TPA Audit Committee is to provide support and assistance to the CEO and the senior executive management in ensuring TPA has effective internal system process operational team in the organisation.
Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Hon. Isi Henry Leonard said this audit committee is timely as the government of day upholds good governance.
He said he would also like to see audit committees established in all agencies under his Ministry.
The Department of Finance plans to establish Audit Committees in all government spending agencies. Currently there are 21 National Departments Audit Committees, 16 Statutory Bodies and 16 provincial governments.
There to officiate the event were, Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture Hon. Isi Henry Leonard, TPA board Chairman Hon. Kennedy Wenge, DoF Deputy Secretary Margaret Tenakanai and senior management, Deputy Auditor General Lemeki Illa, senior management and staff of PNG TPA and the media fraternity.
